NATO says one service member has been killed and eight others injured in an explosion aboard a coalition helicopter just after it landed in eastern Afghanistan.
"The helicopter was on the ground in Kunar province when an explosion of unknown origin occurred," read a statement from the international military coalition. The wounded troops were taken to an NATO medical facility.
NATO said the helicopter had 26 people aboard when the explosion occurred.
The landing site, which was not disclosed, was secured by Afghan and coalition forces.
NATO did not immediately release the nationalities of the troops involved in the accident.
